CREATE A ROOM LIKE THESE NO MATTER YOUR BUDGET WITH A FEW KEY TIPS:

1. Go daring with tiles.
Classic hexagonal or modern encaustic? Although we’ve used each of our High and Low choices straight up, we’re not averse to doing a little mix and match if the floor warrants.

2. Choose a stand-out dresser.
The humble dresser just might be the hardest working piece of furniture you’ll ever own. Bedroom, living room, kitchen and office – even the bathroom – can use one to hold everything from linens to papers to candles to clothes. The beauties we’ve placed in each of our High and Low rooms, with their comfortable proportions, stand in as both classy catch-alls and dazzling display spaces. Every room should be so lucky.

3. Go for the hook.
There’s nothing handier than having a hook by the door, whether it’s for keys, a hat, a purse or a towel for wiping muddy paws. It’s even better when said towel is a chic hammam or fouta – a flat-woven Turkish cotton sheet that’s a favourite of stylists – that pleasingly matches your decorating scheme.

4. Seating with mixed materials.
This quiet moment communicates all that needs to be said about this carefully curated High or Low aesthetic: Classic hexagonal floor tiles, cottagey beadboard wainscotting, country striped toss cushion fabric, boho medallion seat cushion fabric and a faux bamboo Georgian chair frame are combined with a deft hand to create a style to remember.

5. Choose sharp black accents.
In the same way a little black dress should be part of every woman's wardrobe, a dark-hued table lamp should be in every home. These sleek examples in the gallery below are topped with simple drum shades and offer a refined alternative to the ubiquitous industrial task lamp — we're looking forward to having these dramatic versions light up our lives.
